What is Pounce?

Pounce is a regional American name for Peanut, a real-time multiplayer solitaire card game also known as Nerts, Nertz, and Racing Demon. Rules are identical: 2 to 8 players race at the same time to empty a 10-card pile onto shared foundations.

The name likely comes from the physical pouncing motion players make when two people go for the same foundation spot. Peanutroom.com is the free online version that plays exactly like the Pounce you grew up with.

Pounce rules

• Each player uses their own deck. You deal a 10-card pounce pile (top card face up), 5 Klondike-style work columns (1 to 5 cards, only the top card face up), and hold the rest as a stock.
• Everyone plays at the same time. No turns. First to empty their pounce pile ends the round.
• Shared foundations. Build up by suit from Ace to King in the middle. Anyone can play onto any foundation. Fastest hand wins.
• Your tableau. Build down alternating colors, Klondike-style.
• Score. +1 for each foundation card you played, -2 for each card left in your pounce pile.
