What is Nerts?

Nerts is one of the many names players use for Peanut, a real-time multiplayer solitaire card game. 2 to 8 players race at the same time to empty a 10-card pile onto shared foundation piles. There are no turns. The first player to clear their pile calls "Nerts!" (or "Peanut!") to end the round.

Nerts rules in 30 seconds

Each player has their own 52-card deck. You deal a 10-card Nerts pile (top card face up), 5 Klondike-style work columns (1 to 5 cards, only the top card of each face up), and hold the rest as a stock. Everyone builds down in alternating colors on their tableau, and builds up by suit from Ace to King on the shared foundation piles in the middle of the table.

Score +1 for every card you play onto a foundation, and -2 for every card left in your Nerts pile when someone else ends the round. First player to the target score wins. See full rules.

Is Nerts the same as Peanut, Nertz, Racing Demon, or Pounce?

Yes. They're all names for the same folk card game. The rules are essentially identical. The name you know depends on who taught you: Americans typically say Nerts or Nertz, British players call it Racing Demon, and a lot of families grew up calling it Peanut or Pounce.
